Growth Mindset Essay Outline

Q Power-Ups are extra credit activities that allow you to further your understanding of a topic and practice a concept while earning course points. Power-Ups can be activities, short review quizzes, or vocabulary activities. For this activity, you will write an outline of essay 2. Make sure you have studied the essay 2 instructions carefully before developing this activity. Essay 2 Outline You will take the ideas and information you gathered in pre-writing and what you learned about essay structure to create a rough outline of essay 2. Your outline should apply what you learned about structure from the essay writing and structure lessons. Type up your work as an actual outline and upload your MLA-formatted Word document or pdf to Canvas named LastName_E2_Outline. Please use the following template to create an outline. Remember that an outline is a skeleton structure of an essay; it is written using brief phrases and bullet points instead of complete sentences and paragraphs. Before you start, review this video, which goes over how to write an outline: A. Introduction 1. Attention Getter: Create a sentence that grabs the reader's attention 2. Introduce the topic and the three parts of the essay 3. Thesis: What is this essay going to prove about your mindset and the challenge you faced? Answer = thesis • For this essay, your thesis should answer the following question: What is this essay going to prove about your mindset and the challenge you faced? Let's say I am writing about creating my first website using Adobe Dreamweaver (this was definitely a challenge!). In my thesis, I would name the challenge, whether I overcame it, and whether the experience shows I had a fixed or growth mindset. Thesis: Learning to create a website in Adobe Dreamweaver (challenge) proved I have a growth mindset about my abilities because I overcame my ego and asked for help, I listened to the help I received, and I saw that my failures meant I had more to learn, not that I was incapable of doing the task at hand (what it proved about my mindset). OR Giving up on creating a website in Adobe Dreamweaver (challenge) proved I had a fixed mindset about my abilities because I was embarrassed to ask for help, I felt like a failure for not "getting it" right away, and I have not continued to learn how to use the program (what it proved about my mindset). Notice that these thesis statements both identify the challenge and follow it with the word "proved" to set up what the challenge showed about my mindset. Transition into the body B. Body Paragraph 1 1. Main idea 1: Write a complete topic sentence. Introduce the challenge. 2. Challenge 3. Reaction 4. Outcome 5. Summary Statement: Write a sentence that concludes this paragraph’s point. Transition between paragraphs C. Body Paragraph 2 1. Main idea 2: Write a complete topic sentence. Introduce what the experience shows about your mindset 2. Example 1 from what you learned in the Growth Mindset Lesson that proves you had a fixed or growth mindset 3. Example 2 from what you learned in the Growth Mindset Lesson that proves you had a fixed or growth mindset 4. Summary Statement: Write a sentence that concludes this paragraph’s point. Transition between paragraphs D. Body Paragraph 3 1. Main idea 3: Write a complete topic sentence. How can you continue growing your mindset about learning and life challenges in the future 2. Example 1 of how you can continue developing growth mindset 3. Example 2 of how you can continue developing growth mindset 4. Summary Statement: Write a sentence that concludes this paragraph’s point. Transition into the conclusion E. Conclusion 1. Re-state your thesis in new words 2. Summarize your main ideas 3. Leave the reader with a final lesson or thought about challenges, growth mindset, and learning PreviousNext
